I was sent to Singapore by our Superiors and the Holy Spirit to establish a Verbum Dei Community in May 1997. It was a big contrast for me after living 17 years in The Philippines. In Singapore, I found that there was material richness but many Catholics had a deep hunger for the Word of God as well as the desire to grow in faith and experience God's Word in daily life. It was not easy to establish a community here with the little that I had. Yet, I trusted. The Holy Spirit placed people in my path who helped me to go through the initial setups and obstacles, such as applying for visa, the lack of money, renting an affordable place to say, etc. In September 1997, I officially entered Singapore with a visa and managed to rent a 3 room flat in Clementi. That was the start of Verbum Dei in Singapore. I am thankful to God for making the Verbum Dei community grow all these years. I am aware of the hand of God guiding the mission here. All He requires of me is to continue to trust in Him.
