While the 25 years of Verbum Dei in Singapore is not a long time, for many of the disciples, it has transformed our lives and impacted our lives journey. Many of us first knew the community when we were single. We encountered the Word of God and allowed His Word to shape our decisions and vocation choices. Now many of us are married and have children of our own. In a way, our families are fruits of the community and the Word of God. Hence through the activity, Families of the Word, we want to show that the Verbum Dei charism extends beyond us, the disciples, to our families. Moreover, going to each other homes enabled us to know one another better and allowed for more intimate sharing, just like how Jesus would meet His disciples.
Families of the Word kicked off on March 2022 with the Verbum Dei Missionaries (seed bearer, aka visiting family) bringing the Bible to a missionary disciples’ house (the good soil, aka the host family) and breaking the Word to the host family. The time of prayer and sharing ended with the host family having a meal with the Missionaries.
Two weeks later, the host family (the good soil) became the visiting family (seed bearer) by bringing the Bible to another missionary disciples’ house and preaching to them. The host family then prepared a meal for the visiting family. Thus, the chain continued. Finally, in October 2022, the cycle ended with the Missionaries as the host family to the missionary disciples.
