Come, Lord Jesus. Bring us Light, 2/3

by Sr. Sandra Seow (Sr. Maria Jose)

Passages:

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; on those who live in a land of deep shadow, a light has shone. You have made their gladness greater; you have made their joy increase; they rejoice in your presence as men rejoice at harvest time, as men are happy when they divide the spoils. For there is a child born for us, a son is given to us, and dominion is laid on his shoulders; this is the name they give him: Wonder-Counsellor, Mighty-God, Eternal-Father, Prince-of-Peace.” Isaiah 9: 2-3,5

In the beginning was the Word: and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All that came to be had life in him, and that life was the light of men, a light that shines in the dark, a light that darkness could not overpower. John 1:1,4-5

When Jesus spoke to the people again, he said: ‘I am the light of the world; anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dark; he will have the light of life.’ John 8:12

You are the light of the world. A city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way, your light must shine in the sight of men so that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.’ Mathew 5:14-16

Summary:

  1. Darkness of the heart does not allow us to see ourselves and others with God’s eyes.

  2. Jesus is ‘The Light’; having Him in our lives, we have his compassion and love to reach out to others as He did.

Reflections:

  1. Does my life illuminate and brighten the world around me with Jesus’ life?
