Stories of the Prophets: Called and Sent 4/5 - Prophet Jeremiah

‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointed you as prophet to the nations.’ I then said, ‘Lord Yahweh, you see, I do not know how to speak: I am only a child!” But Yahweh replied, “Do not say, “I am only a child,” for you must go to all whom I send you and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of confronting them, for I am with you to rescue you.” Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me; “There! I have put my words into your mouth.”… ‘Prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tell them all I command you. Have no fear of them and in their presence I will make you fearless… They will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue you’

When your words came, I devoured them: your word was my delight and the joy of my heart

Yahweh’s word has been the cause of insult and derision all day long. I would say to myself, ‘I will not think about him, I will not speak in his name anymore,’ but then there seemed to be a fire burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones. The effort to restrain it wearied me, I could not do it.’ … ’But Yahweh is at my side like a mighty hero; my opponents will stumble, vanquished, confounded by their failure; everlasting, unforgettable disgrace will be theirs….for I have revealed my cause to you. Sing to Yahweh, praise Yahweh, for he has delivered the soul of one in need from the clutches of evil doers.” Jer 20:8-13
When the seventy years granted to Babylon are over, I shall intervene on your behalf and fulfil my favourable promise to you... Yes, I know what plans I have in mind for you, Yahweh declares, plans for peace, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. When you call to me and come and pray to me, I shall listen to you. When you search for me, you will find me; when you search wholeheartedly for me, I shall let you find me
